The Output: Fish Costume that's Easy on the Pocket

A few months ago, I have written about my plan to create a fish costume for my pupils' Under the Sea presentation. Looking at the photos that I have posted, it was very easy to make - if you're making a costume good for one person that is. But I have 8 kids in class who will be using the costume and working in a public school, I also have to take into consideration the financial burden that I will be giving to the kids' parents.

Most of my pupil's parents are having financial constrains that even asking for a $1 contribution would be hard for them to comply and I am NOT exaggerating with this statement. So I always tell myself to INNOVATE, INNOVATE, INNOVATE. I thought of things that can replace the fabrics used with this costume.

And then it hit me..... CONSTRUCTION PAPER! During the start of the school year I require my pupils to submit a lot of school materials and construction paper is one of those. But of course the output isn't at par with the image from above but I don't think it's bad either.

I asked the parents to provide an over-all clothing and we just have to cut out those "scales" and have them sewn. Now, when you're on a rush, you can use glue gun on them but since I don't want their clothing to be of no use after the presentation, I had them sewn so they can just rip off the paper and use their clothes again. Look how the delighted our guests were at our Moving Up Ceremony.

So there you have it, an economical DIY fish cotume done!
